Welcome to the website of the Brandeis Academic Debate And Speech Society (BADASS). We are dedicated to providing the students of Brandeis University a place to hone their speaking skills and explore new perspectives, attitudes, and ideas. We aim to empower students with the tools to express themselves as well as the confidence to both defend and question their beliefs.
We are one of the most successful intercollegiate debating societies in North America, and are currently ranked the 6th highest team in the country. We compete in the American Parliamentary style of debate as a member of the American Parliamentary Debate Association (APDA) and in the British Parliamentary style as a member of the US Universities Debating Association (USUDA). We represent Brandeis throughout the country and around the world.
Meetings are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8PM in Olin-Sang 116, and are open to anyone. Absolutely no prior debate experience is necessary to join us. As one of the highest ranked teams in the country NOT to host tryouts, we have one of the most effective novice training programs on the circuit, and we will teach you everything you need to know.
The Brandeis Debate Society works with organizations such as The Boston Debate League (BDL) to mentor urban students in debate and host competitions. We also work with other clubs on campus such as the Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance (FMLA) and 'Deis Impact to organize public debates and foster spirited dialogue and free expression on our campus.
